The mystery of Mourinho- Where did it go wrong for the Special One

Last updated : 18 December 2015 By DSG

It comes just after the previous season where the Blues achieved the league and cup and double, despite being branded as "boring" by some for their style of play.

So just how is this season turning out so parallel? Below are just some of the factors that may have come into play.

Eva Caneiro

It all seemed to start during the first game of the season

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was sent off for a challenge on Swansea's Bafetimbi Gomis which resulted in the latter scoring an equalising penalty

Come the last few minutes of the game Chelsea's Eden Hazard went down seemingly needing medical treatment thus leading the referee to summon Eva Carneiro on to assist Hazard

This was met with an angry outburst by Mourinho who decided to launch a scathing attack on Carneiro from pitch side.

This action was met with widespread criticism from those within the game citing an unfair approach from Mourinho and allegations of sexism.

Carneiro has since parted from her position at the club but it is Mourinho who has taken much of the flack.

Many believe this to be the first crack in Chelsea's extraordinarily poor season so far.

Roman Abramovich

"The Roman Empire" was beginning to take its proper shape when Abramovich first appointed Mourinho back in 2004

After leaving to pastures new the Portuguese then returned to a hero's welcome in 2013.

Although not achieving much in his homecoming season he did lead Chelsea to a domestic double the following season and was displaying all the qualities that has brought him success over the years.

However, Abramovich has tended not to stay too loyal to his managers over the years and perhaps that was a factor with Mourinho still yet to guide Chelsea to any European success.

Diego Costa

The former Athletico Madrid man was on fire last season scoring 20 goals to help Chelsea lift another premier league trophy.

But his success was/is being marred by his behaviour on the pitch

Bullying defenders to the point where he is involved in a scuffle almost every game has put his reputation to all new lows.

Perhaps not taming his bull in a china shop was another reason for Mourinho's dismissal.

Constant Blaming of Referees

People have egos especially at the top level in football

However Mourinho's constant post-match moans perhaps said more about his excuse making than taking blame for his teams poor performances.

The Players

Chelsea's players have been nowhere the kind if form they were showing previous

Hazard is yet to score, Fabregas is playing like deer in headlights and Pedro has yet to really make any kind of mark since singing from Barcelona

Only Willian can hold his head high as his goals and performances have been the only highlights of Chelsea's season so far.

Rumours have persisted this season of team affairs, clashes of ego in the dressing room and even player revolt.

Despite these problems, Mourinho has seemingly had always had the backing from the clubs fans

Supporters have regularly been chanting his name during games this season wether they were winning or not

This cannot be said for many managers within the modern game and maybe should have been highlighted more as a reason for him to remain in charge of the club

Reports are emerging that he has turned down his multimillion pound pay-off in favour of it being used to help the club instead.

It's hard to believe a man of his experience, success and general prowess will be out of work for long

Where he decides to go next with his career however, is anyone's guess.
