Last updated : 03 April 2012 By DSG

This weekend was pivotal in the Premier League relegation battle, with struggling teams picking up vital wins.

Elsewhere Sunderland attempted to derail Manchester City's title bid and United travelled to Blackburn in an attempt to storm above their rivals.

Here is the Football.co.uk Premier League team of the week.

Position : Goalkeeper
Adam Bogdan (Bolton Wanderers)
Bolton's 3-2 victory over Wolves was an enormous game for both sides, as the two teams set out to avoid relegation. Brilliant defending, a stroke of luck and the goalkeeping performance from Bogdan were key to victory for the Trotters. The young keeper was responsible for keeping Bolton in the game on more then one occasion.

Position: Defender
Branislav Ivanovic (Chelsea)
No matter where he plays along the back-four, Ivanovic always puts in a great shift. He scored twice against Villa on Saturday and did Roberto di Matteo's chances of managing Chelsea on a full-time basis no harm whatsoever.

Position: Defender
Antolin Alcaraz (Wigan Athletic)
Wigan picked up an excellent three points against Stoke City to make it back-to-back Premier League victories. Wigan started the game nervously but soon found a comfort zone after Alcaraz scored a superb header to set up a well-earned win and boost their survival chances.

Position: Defender
Taye Taiwo (Queens Park Rangers)
January acquisition Taiwo worked hard to extinguish the threat of Theo Walcott during Queens Park Rangers' 2-1 win over Arsenal on Saturday. It was a vital three points for QPR, who needed a win in order to stand a chance of survival this season.

Position: Midfielder
Antonio Valencia (Manchester United)
Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia was superb during the Monday night game, causing Blackburn all sorts of problems then grabbing a fantastic goal to give United the lead. It was another huge three points as the Red Devils went five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Position: Midfielder
Hatem Ben Arfa (Newcastle United)
Following his destruction of West Brom last weekend, Ben Arfa once again continued his superb form by causing Liverpool all kinds of problems on Sunday. The French winger has been an integral part of the Newcastle side as they aim to qualify for Europe.

Position: Midfielder
Adel Taarabt (Queens Park Rangers)
Taarabt has often frustrated fans at Loftus Road this season despite his ability. Against Arsenal he scored a goal worthy of his ability and if he continues his current form then QPR will stand a much larger chance of survival this season.

Position: Midfielder
Stephane Sessegnon (Sunderland)
Sunderland's player of the season terrorised the Manchester City defence and was largely responsible for his team taking a 3-1 lead. Sunderland came close to earning an excellent win against City, but a late comeback made it 3-3.

Position: Forward
Clint Dempsey (Fulham)
The American made a huge impact during the opening exchanges of the game between Fulham and Norwich on Saturday. Dempsey scored a 2nd minute goal before setting Duff free just ten minutes later to make it 2-0 to Fulham.

Position: Forward
Fernando Torres (Chelsea)
The Spanish forward did more than just score his first Premier League goal in six months. He played a vital part in Chelsea's first three goals before he had his moment of glory by striking the ball past Shay Given and into the back of the net to make it 4-2.

Position: Forward
Papiss Cisse (Newcastle United)
Four goals in four games from the Senegalese striker is an incredible return from the January signing. Having already scored a superb header against Liverpool he struck once again to make it 2-0 to the Magpies.
