Today?s Player of the Day is Chelsea, England and Team Great Britain forward Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge who was recently selected for Team GB in the upcoming Olympics is known for his pace, dribbling skills, a powerful long-range shot and his ability to play as a striker or a right winger.
Sturridge played his youth football for Aston Villa, Coventry City and Manchester City before signing for Chelsea in 2009. He was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers for the second half of the 2010-11 season. After a successful spell with Bolton, scoring 8 goals in 12 appearances, Sturridge returned to Chelsea for the 2011-12 season. His performances made him a first team regular for the Blues and also resulted in his first senior call up for the England National team.
Sturridge enjoyed his best season to date in the 2011-12 campaign helping Chelsea to win an impressive double winning the FA Cup and Champions League. His most memorable moment of the season for the Blues came in his first league game back, since his loan spell at Bolton, against Sunderland where after being put though by Raul Merieles scored a back-heel to make the game 2-0.
Sturridge has made 82 appearances for Chelsea, in all competitions, to date scoring 22 goals with 10 assists.
Sturridge has represented England at various youth levels and made his debut for the Senior team on the 6th November 2011 coming on as a second half substitute for Theo Walcott in England?s friendly match against Sweden. He made his second appearance for his country when he came on as a substitute for Steven Gerrard in a match against the Netherlands and was rewarded the man of match award for his efforts.
