Pep Guardiola reveals 2 teams he believes are better than 'normal' Man City

Pep Guardiola has denied that his 'normal' Manchester City side are currently the best team in the world, despite the Citizens opening up a huge lead at the top of the Premier League.

City moved 12 points clear of second-placed Liverpool with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Brentford on Tuesday night, courtesy of goals from Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne.

Although Liverpool have two games in hand beneath them, Guardiola's men are well on course for a fourth Premier League title in five years. They are also favourites to win this season's Champions League and continue to fight in the FA Cup after beating Fulham in the fourth round at the weekend.

Despite a historic treble being a distinct possibility once again this season, the Catalan refused to accept his Man City side are currently the best in the world - instead labelling European champions Chelsea and their Club World Cup final opponents Palmeiras as the top two.

Speaking after the win over Brentford, Guardiola said: "In so many ways I'm impressed with [the players'] attitude. They still have the desire in every game to do their jobs.

"Normally they are being complimented, being praised - 'you are the best team in the world' - these stupid things. You can be confused, but we are still normal.

"We are not the best team in the world. The best team in the world is Chelsea, the best team is Palmeiras. We are not the best and I don't care."

Chelsea earned the right to compete in the Club World Cup tournament in Abu Dhabi by beating Guardiola's City side in the 2021 Champions League final, while Palmeiras join them in the final having won the Copa Libertadores for the second consecutive time last year.
