Pedro landed, now go get Pogba

Chelsea are on the verge of a total transfer U-turn by launching an audacious £85million double bid for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba and Everton's John Stones.

Having landed Pedro from Barcelona and Baba from Augsburg this week, Roman Abramovich's decision, thanks to a football club board rethink, to splash the mega cash, will see them go all out in the remaining days of the transfer window to land the French midfielder and English centre-back.

Everton are on the verge of signing a centre-back and are keen to land a forward. That's why they are holding out for £40million for Stomes. They want to reinforce their squad and make a profit on transfer dealings - they see Chelsea as that cash cow.

Chelsea will look to land Pogba with a £45million cash deal and will throw in Juan Cuadrado on loan for a season.

Chelsea will pay his wages but insist on a £2million loan deal  from the Italian champions, who will then have first option to sign the failed Colombia winger permanently next season.

The reshaping of Chelsea's squad is a consequence of the inability of Jose Mourinho to improve the performance of the squad overall at the start of the season.

The poor start of the season, no wins in 90 minutes in any of their pre-season matches and the defeat in the Community Shiled coupled with a draw and loss in the two opening two Premier League matches has alarmed the football club board.

While they remain confident that Mourinho is the man to keep the trophies rolling into SW6, they recognise that the club needs serious investment.

They had hoped to get two season's worth out of last season's title-winning squad, but the extraordinary addition of quality players to even lesser clubs, has forced the strategic rethink at the top of the club.

Chelsea feared they would fall behind and results and unbalanced performances so far has justified that assertion.

The signings of Pedro In particular has shown the club is determined to remain at the top of the pile.

Chelsea are at WBA on Sunday, the graveyard of two previous managers, Andre Villa Boas and Roberto Di Matteo. Mourinho is confident he won't be the third in an unwanted hat-trick.
