Pedro Clarifies 'Mistranslated' Comments Over Chelsea Future as Summer Exit Rumours Swirl

Pedro has sought to clarify his position at Chelsea after reports suggested that he'd indicated his spell at Stamford Bridge would end this summer.

The Spaniard's contract is due to expire in the summer, which would bring and end to five-season spell with the Blues that has to date brought with it 43 goals and three pieces of silverware.

An interview the forward had with Spanish radio station Cadena Ser was translated as saying Pedro would 'terminate' his deal with Chelsea when the season eventually concludes. It appears his comments have been lost in translation, however, with the 32-year-old taking to the club's official website to shed some light on the reports.

"As many people know, my contract is up in May," he clarified. "But I still haven't spoken to the club about whether or not it will be renewed and whether I'll carry on.

"I've seen loads of messages from Chelsea fans saying goodbye and thanking me for the time I've spent here, which I appreciate, but I'd like to tell all the fans simply that my current contract is coming to an end but I still have to talk to the club."

Chelsea's policy of only offering one-year deals to players over the age of 30 suggests any extension Pedro may be given will not be a long-term one. However, the club have stretched the parameters of their rules for Willian, offering the Brazilian a two-year deal - although he's holding out for more.

Either way, Frank Lampard has made no bones about his desire to add firepower to his frontline, with Pedro seemingly an expendable member of the squad as he bids to reinforce.

And while the former Barcelona man has insisted the previous reports are wide of the mark, he still has no assurances over his future in west London - although his preference is to remain with club beyond the conclusion of the current Premier League season.

He added: "I don't know whether I'll keep playing here or not. That conversation is still to come. But I have not signed for any other club. I belong to Chelsea. I have a contract. My wish is to be able to stay here but obviously we don't know what will happen. I have to speak to the club and let's see what happens."
