Olivier Giroud Camp Fuming at Inter Attitude After Failed Deadline Day Move

Olivier Giroud's camp has hit out at Inter after a proposed move for the striker failed to materialise, forcing him to remain at Chelsea until the end of the season.

Giroud has barely featured for the Blues this campaign, making just five Premier League appearances, as he finds himself behind Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi in the Stamford Bridge pecking order.

The 33-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea throughout the transfer window, with regular first team football a priority for the France international ahead of Euro 2020.

Inter came closest to landing Giroud, but the move fell apart during the final days of the transfer window, with the Serie A outfit no longer able to afford the deal after completing the signings of Ashley Young and Christian Eriksen, much to the frustration of the Giroud camp.

Speaking to French news outlet RMC, a source close to Giroud said: "Inter's attitude towards Olivier Giroud has been very disrespectful. We’ve made a player who’s behaving in an exemplary fashion and who had given priority to Inter wait and even shimmer with anticipation.”

Lampard maintained that Giroud could leave on deadline day if Chelsea could bring in a replacement, with the striker even linked with a move across London to Tottenham.

However, the Blues failed to secure the signing of Napoli striker Dries Mertens, meaning Giroud will remain at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season.

As the transfer saga concluded, Lampard was full of praise for his out-of-favour striker.

Frank Lampard

As quoted by the Daily Star, Lampard said: "We all know that there has been interest and I have sat here in every press conference and said 'if it's right for Olivier, for myself and the club' and he has been impeccable in that period

"Some things are not in my control. I certainly wanted to bring players in. I think I've made that pretty clear over the last few weeks and it hasn't happened."
