Nicolás Tagliafico Hints at Ajax Exit Amid Chelsea & Barcelona Interest

Ajax left-back Nicolás Tagliafico has admitted that he wants to test himself in an 'amazing competition', adding that he has bigger dreams than remaining in the Eredivisie.

The 27-year-old is one of several Ajax stars who have been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Chelsea, Atlético Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain all rumoured to be interested.

Speaking to Argentinian radio station Continental, Tagliafico did not shy away from discussing his goals for the future, admitting that a lot of his focus is on preparing himself for a move away from the Johan Cruijff Arena.

"It’s always been my goal to play in the best competitions, at a top club’, Tagliafico said. "Ajax is an amazing club, but the Eredivisie is not an amazing competition. One should always have bigger dreams.

"I’m still working on my fitness. I need to be as fit as possible in case I’ll move to a new club. The pre-season will start in August, so two more months. But if I’ll leave...it’s still uncertain.

"I might be on [Barcelona's] shortlist, but nothing concrete yet. I have to remain calm. If something is happening, I’ll speak to my agent."

This is by no means the first time that Tagliafico has flirted with a move away from Ajax. He also told Olé that he wants to join an elite side in the near future while he is still in his prime.

"If any club comes into the pass market and makes an offer that works for me and obviously the club financially, I would like to be able to take a leap," he said.

"I'm going to be 28 in August and it would be a very nice moment to be able to continue adding experiences in this continent."

A fee of around €35m has been suggested, which would likely not be a problem for any of his suitors, although the true financial economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak is yet to be fully understood, so that fee is by no means set in stone.
