N'Golo Kante Relishing Chelsea Captaincy Chance as He Seeks Revenge Against Tottenham

N'Golo Kante is relishing the chance to lead the way at Chelsea, and hopes the momentum his side are building can carry the Blues to another positive result against Tottenham.

The diminutive Frenchman wore the captain's armband for the 2-0 victory at Newcastle last time out while regular captain Cesar Azpilicueta and vice captain Jorginho sat out. Usually a man of few words, Kante may not strike as a leader at face value, but his influence over his team-mates is growing with his experience in the game.

"It’s great to be captain of this team, of this club," he said in an interview with the club website. "Something coming more and more as I get older on the team.

"It’s the trust the manager gives me for this kind of game, and I appreciate it."

Chelsea are beginning to emerge as one of a handful of genuine challengers to the Premier League throne. The likes of Timo Werner, Thiago Silva and Hakim Ziyech are steadily beginning to exert their influence over the team, and Kante is delighted with the impact his new teammates have had.

"We are happy to have good momentum," he went on. "I think it’s a result of a lot of work and effort put together to get the results we want. I think so far we are doing well and we need to keep going in this way to have a great season.

"The players who came understand what we want to do in Chelsea. They bring a new energy, they are positive. They want to win and achieve good things at Chelsea and this helps to bring a fresh ambition in the squad and they settled very well in the squad."

Chelsea's loss to Liverpool back in September was their only defeat in 90 minutes this term. They were sent out of the Carabao Cup on penalties by this weekend's opponents, however, and Kante is out for revenge.

"We are in good form and they are in good form. They have good players also," he said. "We lost in the Carabao Cup but now is the league and the most important.

"I think it will be a good game because it’s important for both teams."
