Just when the fans began to wonder if Lukaku could be their next Drogba, he stymied their hopes them by sending the Belgian away on loan. Lukaku might be proving him wrong, but he remains adamant, that his way is the right way.
Juan Mata has been reduced to the bench. Mourinho?s treatment of Chelsea's player of the year is indeed sad. Mourinho has infamously, hindered the careers of a number of talented players by forcing them to adapt to a game which doesn't play to their strengths. Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ricardo Quaresma and Kaka are already on that list, which hopefully will not include Mata in a few years.
He did give in to the fans vociferous demands, and Mata's strong performances on the pitch when the team lost a few games or was in bad positions like the game against Tottenham.
But inadvertently, reverted back to his ?preferrati?, without grabbing any headlines, since Chelsea are back to their winning ways.
On the other hand, he has proved to be the much needed elixir to an invigorated Torres. Indeed, to a Chelsea fan there are few sites as pleasing as an in-form Fernando Torres. He has not only re-gained that confidence he kicked out when he missed that famous open goal against Manchester United, but also seems to have got back that extra yard of pace. Mourinho Magic?
John Terry has given all the credit for his resurrection to the Special One. Terry has certainly got back the form and fitness that he lacked all of last year. The Chelsea captain is back to the solid, ?can't put a foot wrong? form of his.
Other players have also shown signs of improvement under him. Ramires has firmly established himself in Mourinho's famous ?untouchables?, he looks more potent in attack and even more industrious in defence. Mikel has been comfortable in possession, giving away the ball a lot less often as compared to last season.
Mourinho's substitutions have been spot-on and tactically accurate, switching to a 3-5-2 to clinch all three points against Norwich and Cardiff.
There is of course the much talked about ?winning mentality? that every player who has played under him talks about. It is very early in his term to judge if he has been able to instill it in the current Chelsea group, but if he can do that then that will indeed be ?Special?.
