Alvaro Morata is furious at the new Chelsea chant made in his name at the match this afternoon at Leicester City's King Power Stadium.
The away fan allocation at the ground is 3,000 and the chant, which has anti-semitic overtones, came after the Spanish striker scored the opening goal in a 2-1. It was used repeatedly during the match.
Morata is pleading with Chelsea fans to stop it.
The Spanish striker who scored with a fine header in the 2-1 win was made aware of the chant after the game, following criticism on social media at the words used to support him.
When it was brought to the club‘s attention, they immediately spoke to the player, made him aware of the words used and their connotations.
The club’s communications chief Steve Atkins issued the following statement: “The club and the players appreciate the fans passionate support away from home, of course, but the language in that song is not acceptable at all
“I've spoken to Alvaro about it. Alvaro does not want to be connected with that particular song in any way and both the player and club request the supporters stop singing it with immediate effect.”
Chelsea fans will have an almost immediate chance to see wether they will heed the club and Morata’s wishes when Chelsea take on Qarabag, on Tuesday, in the Champions League’s opening group fixture
