Moneybags Monaco line up move for Chelseas John Terry

It is being reported that John Terry is being courted by mega-wealthy Monaco for a summer move to the Monte Carlo playground of the rich glitterati. The newly promoted club, managed by old Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri and supported by billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev, are apparently prepared to make the player a salary offer of ?150,000 per week, tax free. Whilst it?s a similar figure to his Chelsea agreement, keeping his cash away from the clutches of the tax man will make a massive financial difference to the player.

32 year old Terry is understood to be aware of the offer, and is considering his options. With new manager Jose Mourinho about to take the reins at Stamford Bridge once more, it?s probably inevitable that Terry will want to take the Portuguese?s temperature on his future before deciding his move. With just a year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, and rumours of Abramovich being unlikely to offer a new one, the way Mourinho sees the player?s future could be all important. If he tells terry that he will play regularly, it seems likely that he will be tempted to stay. If however he?s told that he?ll be more peripheral, that may well be the signal to go.

The result of the conversation will also very much influence the future of David Luiz. Increasingly courted by Europe?s elite clubs, the Brazilian has been rumoured to be on the move from west London. Barcelona have been long time admirers, but have also now been joined by oil rich PSG who see the opportunity of linking Luiz with Brazilian national team partner Thiago Silva as an ideal situation. From Chelsea?s point of view, the ?30million or so that they could for Luiz would be added into Mourinho?s transfer budget, boosting his ability to reshape the team as he wants it. Always keen on defenders that can defend first, Luiz may not be his ideal centre back.

Should Terry go however, it may well weaken the possibility of Luiz leaving. As well as being a potential captain in waiting, plus one of Abramovich?s favourite players, the Brazilian is becoming a cult hero at the club, and building the new team around him and the midfield trio of Mata, Hazard and Oscar is an appealing prospect.

A ?7million offer may just be enough to tempt Chelsea ? and Mourinho - to accept. If that happens, the message to Terry will be clear. A few years playing in the less frenetic Ligue 1 environment would not be a terrible situation to contemplate, throw in the champagne lifestyle and Mediterranean sun, and the package may be just what an aging centre half with dodgy knees is looking for.
