Claude Makelele has signed a one-year extension to his current contract. It will keep the 34-year-old midfielder at Chelsea until 2009.

Makelele, joined Chelsea in 2003 from Real Madrid.
He has made 183 Chelsea appearances, two as substitute and two goals.
