Leverkusen Director Speaks Out on Kai Havertz Future Amid Premier League Interest

Bayer Leverkusen have not given up hope of keeping Kai Havertz this summer, according to the club's sporting director Rudi Voller.

The 20-year-old has impressed for Leverkusen since bursting onto the scene in 2016 - racking up 73 goal involvements in just 143 games.

Kai Havertz has been attracting interest from across Europe recently

He has been linked with many of Europe's top clubs in recent years and interest in him has only increased since the Bundesliga returned last month.

Despite Havertz's status as one of the most sought after talents in world football, Leverkusen sporting director Voller has revealed that the club still harbours some hopes of convincing him to stay at the BayArena.

“We haven’t given up hope that he’ll stay with us,” Voller told ARD (via Daily Star).

“We try to give him every possibility that he can call up his qualities. He did an outstanding job in the second half of the season.”

Despite Voller's optimism, Leverkusen face an uphill battle to prevent Havertz departing in the summer. Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Manchester City are just some of the sides that have been tipped to make a move for the versatile German.

Chelsea also entered the race for his signature recently, just days after they secured a deal for fellow Bundesliga star Timo Werner. The Blues are thought to be preparing a £75m bid for Havertz which is just short of Die Werkself's €100m (£89m) asking price.

Real Madrid are also thought to be considering a €80m bid for the starlet, in a deal that would see him loaned back to Leverkusen for the 2020/2021 season - whenever that may be.

Liverpool on the other hand seem to have passed on the opportunity to bring Havertz to Anfield. After missing out on Werner to Chelsea, Jurgen Klopp has said he did not expect the club to sanction any big signings in the summer.
