Kai Havertz to Open Talks With Bayer Leverkusen About Joining Chelsea

Chelsea target Kai Havertz is expected to begin formally discussing his future with Bayer Leverkusen officials later this week, when the Bundesliga club return to training for pre-season.

Havertz is among the brightest young talents in Europe and finished the 2019/20 campaign with another impressive haul of goals and assists, taking his tally of direct goal contributions for the last two years alone to 53 in all competitions.

Chelsea are already considered favourites to land the Germany star, who is thought to have made up his mind about making the switch to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Havertz has previously stated in public that he feels ‘ready to take a big step’, while Leverkusen chief executive Fernando Carro has admitted the club won’t stand in his way if he wants to move on.

Havertz has already been tipped to asked Leverkusen to sell him specifically to Chelsea and now that he is due to report for pre-season duty on Thursday the time has come to submit that request.

German reporter Christian Falk has claimed that when training begins Havertz wants to open talks with Leverkusen and will at that point ask that the club agrees a deal with Chelsea.

Chelsea have already been busy preparing for next season and will boast an attacking line-up brimming with quality after so far also sealing the marquee signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

But defensive reinforcements are still needed given that Chelsea have leaked the most goals of any club in the top half of the Premier League this season.

The Blues are on the lookout for a new left-back and new goalkeeper, while an enquiry has also been made about Inter centre-back Milan Skriniar, who at just 25 is likely to be a better long-term investment than available Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly.

Chelsea have also been tipped to sell existing players to raise further money for transfers, with senior midfielders Jorginho and N’Golo Kante among those who could be cashed in.
