Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz does not want to wait a year for a blockbuster move away from the club, handing Chelsea a huge boost in their pursuit of the German.
Frank Lampard is understood to be keen on making Havertz his next blockbuster signing of the summer, with the 21-year-old expected to cost close to the £90m mark.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are both keen on landing Havertz as well, but that enormous price tag has proven to be a real problem for them. Bayern have already publicly ruled out signing the Leverkusen star this summer, while Real are looking to avoid spending big to recover from the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.
Those two sides are understood to be keen on signing Havertz in 2021, but according to The Guardian, that's not going to work as Havertz wants to leave Leverkusen this summer.
That leaves Chelsea as the only real suitor for the midfielder right now, and The Guardian report that a switch to Stamford Bridge appeals to Havertz.
The Blues still have some money left over from Eden Hazard's sale, while the departures of both Álvaro Morata and Mario Pašalić have added a little extra to the transfer kitty, but Chelsea are expected to offload some fringe players to help make space for Havertz.
The Express state that Marcos Alonso, Emerson Palmieri and Michy Batshuayi could be three high-profile exits, and that trio could be joined by Tiemoué Bakayoko, Kenedy and Danny Drinkwater.
Those are the only players mentioned in that report, but the likes of Ross Barkley and Kurt Zouma have both been tipped to leave the Bridge this summer, so Chelsea could be set to make a hefty amount of money if all goes well.
Sport Bild's Christian Falk states that no official offer has been presented to Leverkusen just yet, which is nothing to be surprised out, but the German side are well aware of Chelsea's intentions this summer.
After Leverkusen missed out on Champions League qualification, the hope is that Havertz's asking price could drop, with a figure of £70m being touted by various outlets, but Chelsea are now working to find out where that number actually lies.
