John Terry and Kurt Zouma turn out for Chelseas development squad

Terry, who is 36 next month, has been a substitute for the first team in recent weeks, with his only start since returning from an ankle injury coming in the EFL Cup loss at West Ham.

The Chelsea captain and Kurt Zouma, who is continuing his rehabilitation from his long-term knee injury, were watched by David Luiz, who will be keen to hang on to his position at the heart of Chelsea's defence.

Terry and Zouma were accompanied by Fikayo Tomori in a back three of a 3-4-3 formation, the same adopted by Antonio Conte's Premier League table-topping first team.

Terry was replaced by Dujon Sterling with 20 minutes to go.

Other first-team players involved were Cesc Fabregas, Michy Batshuayi and Marco van Ginkel.

Belgium striker Batshuayi scored twice and Van Ginkel scored a late winner as the Blues beat Southampton 3-2 at their Cobham training base.

Chelsea next play Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday.
