Jeremie Boga Hints at Chelsea Return After Impressing Since Permanent Sassuolo Switch

Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga has opened the door to a Chelsea return after admitting that he always saw his loan spells away from the club as an opportunity to "improve, then maybe come back one day.”

The 23-year-old departed Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis two years ago after spending three successive seasons out on loan, for a fee of around £3.5m.

His time in Italy can only be considered a success, with Boga growing in stature as a player during his time in Serie A. This season, he has found the back of the net eight times - form that has seen him linked with a return to the Premier League.

Now, he has told The Athletic in a wide-ranging interview that opportunities were hard to come by at the club because of strong competition for places, hinting that he always had an eye on returning.

“When I was there, it was Willian, Hazard, Pedro,” Boga said. "When Mourinho was there, it was Salah. There were a lot of good wingers.

“For me, it has always been if I can’t play, then I will try to go on loan or try to go somewhere to improve, then maybe come back one day.”

Boga's comments are most definitely not a come-and-get-me plea, but do suggest that the one-cap Cote d'Ivoire international feels he is capable of making the grade at Chelsea, who inserted a buy-back clause of around £20m when selling him.

He then admitted to keeping in touch with some of his former Chelsea teammates from youth level - including Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham - via Snapchat, commenting on how good they were when they were together in west London.

“I think our generation was one of the best Chelsea ever had. We had so many talented players," Boga added. "It was not easy but every weekend, we were so used to winning 2-0 or 3-0. If I score or do something, they say well done."
