International Blues

Frank Lampard was in the starting lineup for England yesterday against Australia. Unfortunately, Frank couldn't quite get into the match and didn't really give as strong a showing as was expected of him.

England!
But 45 minutes of action is hardly enough to judge any player and it would surprise me if Frank wasn't given another chance to show what he can do for England. It also didn't help matters that the rest of the England team were crap in the first half!

Marcel Desailly was another Blue to end up on the losing side for his country, as France crashed against Czech Republic. Milan Baros (of Liverpool) and Zdnek Gryera scored the goals for the Czech Republic. The occasion was a happy one for Desailly however as he equalled Didier Deschamps record for French caps- 103. He played alongside William Gallas in defence and Emmanuel Petit was the third Blue in the French team.

Meanwhile, Jesper Gronkjaer was in inspiring form for Denmark as they hammered Egypt 4-1. Charlton's Claus Jensen scored an unlikely hat-trick, whilst former Newcastle striker Jon Dahl Tomasson scored the other.

Mikael Forssell played the first half for Finland as they beat Northern Ireland 1-0. Forssell is currently on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach after a long term injury.

Bolo Zenden played the full 90 minutes for Holland as they beat Argentina 1-0. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was among the substitutes although he did not make it on to the pitch. Arsenal midfielder Gio van Bronckhorst scored the winner at the death.

That just about does it for Chelsea players in action last night... the early signs suggest that no injuries were sustained in the matches but the club will be checking the players' fitness ahead of Sunday's trip to Stoke.
