The Blues appear to be moving closer to appointing Hiddink as their new boss after Carlo Ancelotti was sacked.

And the Dutchman has told the club to outbid Manchester United and City for his compatriot.

In demand: Wesley Sneijder is expected to leave Inter Milan with the Premier League his favoured destination

Sneijder, 27, who also played for Real Madrid, is keen to move to the Premier League this summer after a disappointing season in Italy.

Sir Alex Ferguson sees the playmaker as the ideal replacement for the retiring Paul Scholes but may be unwilling to meet his ?200,000-a-week wage demands.

City are unlikely to have the same reservations but Chelsea hope they will be seen as the more atttractive option for the Champions League winner.

Return: Guus Hiddink (centre) is expected to return to Chelsea for a second spell as manager

The London club are waiting for Turkish FA chief Mahmut Ozgener to return to work next week before making an official approach for Hiddink, who enjoyed a previous spell as manager.

The Turks are resigned to losing Hiddink despite him having a year left on his deal as national coach, as the Blues are ready to shell out ?4m to pay off his contract.

Chelsea have also been linked with Tottenham's Luka Modric, another target for Untied, Udinese forward Alexis Sanchez and remain keen on Brazil star Neymar. Sportsmail revealed yesterday that Anderlecht youngster Romelu Lukaku is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.
