Gareth Southgate hails 'infectious' Conor Gallagher after England win over Switzerland

Gareth Southgate heaped praised on Conor Gallagher following his performance in England's win over Switzerland at Wembley Stadium.

The young Crystal Palace loanee put in a shift during the 2-1 win, leading the press from midfield and causing havoc for the Swiss defence.

Speaking to the press after the game, England manager Southgate was quick to recognise Gallagher's contribution, stating that the youngster 'set the tone' for the rest of the team in the international friendly:

"He [Gallagher] is infectious and he can set the tone for the rest of the team, you see that with his club and he presses with ambition. He goes and makes contract and turns a lot of the ball over."

Despite this praise however, Southgate did hint at a Mason Mount-Conor Gallagher partnership perhaps not being a tactically viable one moving forward too:

"We feel Mason Mount and Gallagher press well but can leave us vulnerable to the switch," he continued. "The Swiss worked that out. We had an idea of what we wanted to do, we would have wanted Bukayo Saka to have a look at that."

Those comments may be cause for concern for Chelsea fans who are keen to see Gallagher return to Stamford Bridge at the end of his current loan to Palace. While it is widely expected that the midfielder will play for the Blues next season, there is also some interest from European clubs.

Serie A giants Juventus and Inter are said to be interested in signing Gallagher, having sent scouts to watch him in Palace's 0-0 draw with Man City recently.
