Frank Lampard Provides Update on Chelsea's Transfer Plans - No 'Knee-Jerk' Signings

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has warned the club against making any "knee-jerk" signings during the January transfer window.

The Blues have been linked with countless players since their two-window transfer ban was lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, leaving Chelsea free to make new signings this month.

The club have specifically been looking at bringing in a striker as well as a defender, but Lampard says he doesn't want Chelsea to make any new signings just for the sake of being active in the January window.

"I think I should be because that’s where we’re at at the moment," Lampard said, quoted by Goal. "If it feels right for us, then we’ll do it.

"I think the idea of January being a time to buy players, it’s difficult for everybody - for players coming in, especially if they’re coming from a different league, for the club and for the settlement of the group.

"I think that’s why we have to think ultra carefully and I do care and consider the club and where we’re going. I don’t want to make some knee-jerk reaction to say ‘here’s my first big signing’ because we couldn’t sign anyone in the summer.

"No, I want to do the right thing for the club. That’s why if I do it I’ll try and consider all things. It will always be in communication with the club. Hopefully, it’s the best thing for us. Whether that’s more of a short-term option or a long-term option, we’ll also have to consider."

Chelsea have been heavily linked with RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner this month as they look to provide some competition for Tammy Abraham, but a deal for the Germany international would likely be almost impossible to complete until the summer.

Elsewhere, Lewis Dunk and Nathan Aké have been rumoured to be on Chelsea's radar although the club haven't stepped up their interest so far.
