Frank Lampard Admits Chelsea May Have to 'Suffer' to Beat Bayern Munich

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has admitted that his side are the underdogs heading into Tuesday's Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

In what has been billed as a grudge match following the Blues' shock victory in the 2012 Champions League final, it is Bayern who come in as favourites once more, with the German side currently sitting pretty at the top of the Bundesliga.

There's no denying the fact that Chelsea have not been at their best of late, and Lampard confessed (via the Daily Mail) that his team must embrace the 'underdog' tag if they are to get something from this tie.

"When you look at their team, the talent they have, the medals they have, the experience they have… maybe we don't have that experience,' Lampard said.

"But it's there to turn it around; to overcome being the underdog. Those are the best stories in sport. I understand if people call us the underdogs because Bayern are so strong.

"A big part of my job is to explain to the players that over two legs, we need to be at our maximum. We must make sure every box is ticked in both games.

"After the game, we will probably suffer. Bayern are an incredible side with the ball. They've got some really talented players who keep the ball and use it well. If we have to suffer, we have to suffer."

English sides are already well aware of Bayern's quality, having seen them mercilessly pick apart Tottenham Hotspur en route to a 7-2 win back in October.

Lampard added (via Sky Sports News) that he will 'definitely' use that game as part of his pre-match preparations, most likely to prove to his young side that they simply cannot afford to give anything less than 100%.

Finally, he gave some team news ahead of the fixture. Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi and N'Golo Kanté are all unsurprisingly sidelined, while Pedro will return to the squad after missing the Spurs game.
