Essien to return to national fold

Michael Essien is expected to end his self-imposed exile of his national team Ghana.

Essien was in the stands as he saw his country gain a well-deserved 1-1 against a much-changed England side.

Ghana coach Stavanovic Goran revealed afterwards that Essien will return.

“I have spoken several times with Essien,” said Goran.

“I profoundly believe he will be in the next game.”

That will be a welcome relief for the Ghana fans who cheered their side right to the last-gasp as they hit a late equaliser.

Kwadwo Asamoah slalomed his way through the England rearguard before stroking home a fine left-footer, curling the ball wide of the despairing dive of Joe Hart.

England had earlier taken the lead through a fine low strike by Andy Carroll.
