Edinson Cavani's Agent Hits Back at Atletico President & Addresses Man Utd, Chelsea Links

Edinson Cavani's brother and agent has claimed the Paris Saint-Germain forward would only join Chelsea or Manchester United if he was motivated by money, while hitting back at Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo.

The Uruguayan is in the final six months of his contract with PSG and has already confirmed he will not be putting pen to paper on a new deal at the Parc des Princes. Cavani had looked set to complete a move to Atletico Madrid in January, but the deal fell through as the two clubs could not agree a fee.

Atleti president Cerezo appeared to call him out Cavani's brother Walter Fernando by stating a 'friend or relative' had hampered negotiations between his team and the French outfit.

Fernando has since hit back, saying to Spanish radio station La Cadena SER (via football.london): "Who is Enrique Cerezo? I didn't see him in any negotiation. Atletico has something to explain to their fans about why the signing has not been done.

"Do you think that after Cavani has not played in the last month with PSG, it’s for me to drop a commission and Edi not fulfil his dream of playing at Atletico? If it were for money, Edi would have gone to England to Manchester [United] or Chelsea."

The Blues have been in search of attacking reinforcements, but it seems signing Cavani was never really on the cards, given his eagerness to move to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Diego Pablo Simeone

There's remains a strong likelihood Madrid will be the striker's next destination, with the transfer fee all that prevented him from joining Diego Simeone's squad last month.

He'll be a free agent, and - if Fernando's words are to be trusted - neither United nor Chelsea will be able to turn his head by offering a lucrative pay packet. It could well be the agent's comments could be a negotiating tactic to sweeten the terms he gets with Atletico.
