Damien Duff has hit back at criticism levelled at Chelsea from Manchester United quarters.

Speaking after the Blues' 3-2 extra time victory over Liverpool in the Carling Cup, Duffer is reported as saying: "There's only one place I wanted to be this weekend and it wasn't playing a League game.

"I wanted to be at the Millennium Stadium and I'm sure if you asked Manchester United they would have liked to have been picking up a trophy."

"Yes, they pegged three points on us but we will bounce back next Saturday.

"We may not be playing the prettiest of football over the past couple of weeks but we are grinding results out and I think that speaks volumes for the squad."

Sir Alex Ferguson had recently tried to undermine Chelsea with comments questioning their ability to survive the season without having a blip.
