Diarra to face Belgians

Lassana Diarra could start for Chelsea against Belgian side Anderlecht in tonight's Champions League match.

The French u-21 starlet could replace Claude Makelele who is sidelined through injury.

The vital holding midfielder came off worse in a clash with Newcastle's Scott Parker in the 3-0 win on Saturday and is out for six weeks.

Diarra, 20, has made just one substitute appearance for Chelsea but Jose Mourinho could be forced to throw the youngster into the starting line-up.

Mourinho said: "He’s (Maka) out tomorrow, he will be out for a few more weeks, two, three, I’m not sure. He’s an important player for us, but we have solutions. Essien did well against Newcastle, and we have in Diarra a boy ready to do it.

“Essien can adapt to the role. He can give defensive protection to the central defence, give freedom to Lampard to go into attacking positions, try to play simple and organise the game in the first and second phase. But Diarra is ready. I have to decide — …” and he laughed a little, “… I have made a decision already!”

Chelsea have already beaten Anderlecht 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in the group stage and a win tonight will see them through to the knockout stages of the Champions league.

Full-back Glen Johnson is also missing after he left the field injured during the victory over Newcastle.

Shaun Wright-Phillips is suspended after picking up three cautions while winger Arjen Robben has only just resumed full training.

Didier Drogba is likely to be recalled to lead the attack after being suspended for the Premiership game.
