Congratulations To Franco

It is the second time the Sardinian maestro has been the recipient of the award, the first occasion coming during his first season at Chelsea after joining in November 1996.

Zola has scored twice in October, helping Chelsea to victories over Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion. He also currently leads the race for the Barclaycard Golden Boot with eight goals and he himself was delighted with yet another recognition of the remarkable season he is enjoying in the twilight of his career.

The decision was made by the Barclaycard Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football's governing bodies, the media and fans.

The Barclaycard Awards Panel said: "When it comes to great Barclaycard Premiership players, they don't come much better than Gianfranco Zola. As a player he has skill, vision and an eye for goal, attributes that have made him a Stamford Bridge legend. At the tender age of 36 he is still turning in world class displays for his club and leads the race for the Golden Boot."

Steve and Rich at Chelsea Mad are absolutely delighted for Franco – no more than the genius deserves! Congratulations once again Franco.
