Chelsea Women Confirm Statement Signing of Pernille Harder

Chelsea Women have completed the signing of Danish striker Pernille Harder from Wolfsburg, further strengthening an already talented attacking unit with even more world class quality.

Harder has scored goals prolifically for a decade, having played for clubs in Denmark, Sweden and Germany to date. She is a four-time Frauen Bundesliga champion with Wolfsburg and was a Champions League finalist last month.

The 27-year-old has also scored more than 60 international goals for Denmark.

“I’m extremely happy and extremely excited to get started, to finally be here and be a Chelsea player. I couldn’t be more happy,” Harder told her new club’s official website.

“I’m excited to just play for such a big club, to play with so many amazing players and to also be playing in the league [Women’s Super League]. The English league, it’s so exciting at the moment and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes said, “Pernille is one of the best players in the world. Her record at Wolfsburg and Linkopings, as well as internationally with Denmark, shows how valuable she has been to her teams.

“She is a fantastic team player who wants to take her game to the next level. She chose Chelsea as the club that can push her to that level. She can play for any team in the world, but she chose us.

“She chose the players, the staff, the environment, the playing style. You can’t get a bigger compliment than that from one of the best players in the world.”

Harder finished second behind only Lyon superstar Ada Hegerberg in the 2018 Ballon d’Or and was again nominated for the 2019 award. She was also eighth on The Guardian’s most recent annual list of the top 100 female footballers in the world last December.

Chelsea had already signed German midfielder Melanie Leupolz, former Liverpool winger Niamh Charles and Canada international Jessie Fleming this summer, and won the Women’s Community Shield against chief title rivals Manchester City last weekend.
