Chelsea takeover: Serena Williams & Sir Lewis Hamilton backing Sir Martin Broughton bid

Sporting superstars Serena Williams and Sir Lewis Hamilton have committed to throw their financial might behind Sir Martin Broughton's bid to buy Chelsea FC.

Three prospective buyers have submitted their final offers to buy their club - consortiums headed by Todd Boehly, Sir Broughton and Stephen Pagliuca.

The Raine Group, the bank managing the transaction, are now seeking final details from the three parties before a preferred choice is put forward.

According to Sky Sports News, 23-time women's tennis Grand Slam winner Williams and Formula 1 superstar Hamilton have committed millions of pounds to Sir Broughton's bid.

The two sporting icons are said to have pledged an estimated £10m each to the former British Airways and Liverpool chairman's effort to take over Chelsea.

Williams and Hamilton have both become established investors in recent years, with the tennis star heading capital fund Serena Ventures, while Hamilton has backed a number of start-ups.
