Chelsea Reveal Divisive New Third Kit for 2020/21 Season

Chelsea have unveiled their new third kit for the 2020/21 season, ditching the usual black in favour of an interesting ember glow.

Following Nike's theme of releasing new throwback kits, Chelsea have drawn inspiration from some of their older shirts, but also from the Nike Air Max 180, which was a staple of London culture in the 1990s.

“The Air Max coupled with football jersey culture is the ultimate hybrid of streetwear and sports,” said Nike Scott Munson VP, Nike Football Apparel.

“We were mindful of paying full respect to the clubs and their identities, but we quickly discovered that this is a very happy marriage. The kits are stylish, highly original and will look great on the pitch and the street.”

For Chelsea, this shirt will be worn in Europe on the Blues' Champions League journey, with Frank Lampard keen to see his side challenge for major honours once more.

Lampard has been incredibly busy in the transfer market this summer, splashing out over £200m to bring in Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva, while young defender Malang Sarr has also joined ahead of a season-long loan away from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will hope to build on their fourth-placed finish last season and prove themselves as a genuine threat to Liverpool and Manchester City's dominance at the top of the Premier League table.
