Chelsea Poised to Land Wolfsburg Forward Pernille Harder for Record Fee

Chelsea are poised to sign Denmark captain Pernille Harder from Wolfsburg in a blockbuster deal, with Sunday's Champions League final against Lyon to be the forward's final game for the German champions.

The 2018 UEFA Women's Player of the Year is one of the most exciting players in world football, recently making headlines after finding the net four times for Wolfsburg in the Champions League quarter-final against Glasgow City.

According to German news outlet Kicker, Harder will make the switch to Chelsea following the Champions League final and before the new Bundesliga season gets underway on Friday.

The report states that she will depart Wolfsburg on Tuesday in order to fly to London.

The acquisition of Harder would be another massive signing for Chelsea, following the addition of Bayern Munich captain Melanie Leupolz this summer and Australian international Sam Kerr in January.

The 27-year-old was the Bundesliga's top scorer during the 2019/20 campaign with 27 goals, and won the same accolade in the 2018/19 Champions League despite Wolfsburg being eliminated at the quarter final stage.

She would join an already frightening forward line at Chelsea, which currently includes Kerr, 2019/20 WSL Player of the Season Beth England, Fran Kirby, Erin Cuthbert and Niamh Charles.

Harder still has a year remaining on her contract with the German champions, but according to Sport Buzzer, Chelsea are prepared to cough up €350,000 (£306,000) to bring her to London.

Transfer fees are not widely reported in the women's game, but this figure stands to be a record price paid for a Bundesliga player.

Although Harder is contracted to Wolfsburg until 2021, one contributing factor to her exiting the club early is to team up with long-term girlfriend Magdalena Eriksson, who currently captains Chelsea.

The pair played together at Linköpings FC in Eriksson's native Sweden, but have been plying their trade in separate countries since 2017 when they joined Chelsea and Wolfsburg respectively.
