Chelsea Players Expected to Accept 10% Pay Cut in Agreement With Club Bosses

​Chelsea's first-team squad are ready to accept a 10% pay cut as part of the club's measures to combat the financial hit of the coronavirus outbreak.

Premier League football has been on hold for several weeks and clubs across all levels of the sport are facing an uncertain future, with there still being plenty of uncertainty surrounding prize money and television revenue this season.

Some clubs have already been forced to furlough non-playing staff due to the coronavirus outbreak, while others have already reached an agreement with their players to reduce their wages for the foreseeable future.

At Chelsea, the Daily Mail reports club captain César Azpilicueta has been leading negotiations with managing director Marina Granovskaia over a possible 10% pay cut for all first-team players at Stamford Bridge.


The pay cut is expected to last for four months.


An agreement hasn't been reached yet between the players and the club's key decision-makers, but the Daily Mail insists talks have remained 'amicable' during the whole process and suggest a deal will be reached.


It's claimed there is a feeling from within Chelsea's squad that their wages could be put to better use, like the #PlayersTogether fund which was pushed out by Jordan Henderson, rather than simply putting more money back into the club.


The agreement Chelsea's players are expected to reach with the club will be similar to the wage cut that will be brought in at Arsenal.


Throughout the coronavirus outbreak so far, Chelsea have been one of the clubs who are leading the way with what they're doing to help the public services.

The Blues have already offered free hotel rooms to hospital staff at St Mary's Paddington, Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital, while also providing free meals to NHS staff and working with other charities in their local area.
