Chelsea Offered Boost in Race for Timo Werner After He Admits Premier League Interests Him

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has hinted that his future may lie in England after describing the Premier League as the ‘most interesting’ competition.

Werner, who has been heavily linked with Chelsea and Real Madrid in recent days and weeks, has scored 18 Bundesliga goals this season, coming at a rate of more than one per game, firing Leipzig to the top of the table.

The 23-year-old has always been tipped for a bigger stage than Leipzig ever since an impressive debut season at the nouveau riche club several years ago in 2016/17.

The time might finally come this summer, with Chelsea in particular on the lookout for new strikers to strengthen their squad and provide competition for Tammy Abraham.

Bayern have distanced themselves from a move, but Real Madrid are believed to be eyeing the Germany international, with Luka Jovic notably underachieving since joining the club.

But it is clubs in England who might well have the upper hand in any transfer pursuit because of how Werner views the action-packed Premier League.

“The Premier League is certainly the most interesting league, you have to say. There is a certain flair to watching the English league and playing there,” he told Bild.

Other English clubs in Manchester United and Liverpool have also been speculatively linked at times, although there is less need for a new forward at Old Trafford or Anfield than Stamford Bridge.

Werner also admitted, “As of now I have no desire to look for a move elsewhere.”

Nothing will happen sooner than the summer and a big approach from Stamford Bridge won’t come this month. 90min recently told you that Chelsea will wait until the end of the season for their preferred targets to become available and will keep hold of Michy Batshuayi for now.
