Chelsea & Manchester City Eye Summer Move for Everton's Lucas Digne

Exclusive - Chelsea and Manchester City are considering Everton left-back Lucas Digne as they look to solve their left-sided defensive issues this summer.

Digne joined Everton in the summer of 2018 from Barcelona and he impressed during his first season at the club, sharing the club's Player of the Season award with the departed Idrissa Gueye.

The Frenchman has continued to shine this campaign, starting 25 of the Toffees' opening 26 Premier League games. In total, he has featured in 29 matches in all competitions in 2019/20, scoring once, while he has also providing an impressive six assists.

Digne's continued good form has seen him attract attention. A source has told 90min that Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City have been checking on the defender and Everton's resolve could be tested this summer.

While both the west London side and the Citizens are keen on Leicester City's Ben Chilwell - who could cost as much as £100m - they are also looking elsewhere at secondary targets.

As a result of his fine form, both clubs' scouting teams have identified Digne as another option. Any deal won't come cheap either, however. The Toffees paid around £18m for his services, but they would demand more than double that figure for the 26-year-old.

UEFA confirmed on Friday evening that City have been banned from the Champions League for the next two seasons over Financial Fair Play breaches, while they have also been fined €30m (£25m). As a result, this may impact their transfer plans.

Despite City and Chelsea's interest in Digne, a summer move for Chilwell is certainly still on the cards. A source has told 90min that Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is targeting a reunion with Arsenal's Kieran Tierney this summer, as the Foxes look to make plans to replace the seemingly outbound Chilwell.
