Chelsea 'Happy' with their search

Last updated : 04 June 2008 By Paul Lagan
Chelsea are still putting their heads in the sands and rufusing to talk about who they want as manager or about when they are going to announce who it is.
Prompted by Chelsea-Mad's revelation today that Mark Hughes had been offered the hot seat, Chelsea have come out and made the following statement: "Contrary to reports Chelsea Football Club has not reached agreement with any individual to become manager, nor have we sought permission from any organisation to talk to their manager. We are extremely happy with how our search is progressing."
So there you have it Chelsea still haven't even asked Blackburn Rovers for permission to speak to Sparky.
Now as we all know, Roman wants Carlo Ancelotti and Peter Kenyon wants Sparky.
Of course The Italian is more experienced and could be described as the type of manager to fit the Chelsea 'Brand'
He has vast European experience as a player and manager. He has won titles - vital in any candidate if they are to match exactly Chelsea's vast job specification.
But his major problem is not speaking good enough English.
It's this dynamic which is prompting Kenyon to focus attention on Hughes.
Watching Jose Mourinho conduct his first media interview as Inter Milan boss, in near perfect Italian after just three months teaching was extraordinary.
He was a massive talent lost to Chelsea.
Replacing him with underqualified Avram Grant was a serious error.
Now Chelsea are prevarivcating and could miss out on Hughes as Manchester City have agreed compensation terms with Blackburn Rovers.
Kenyon is going to have to be working his Blackberry into meltdown to nab his man at the 11th hour from under the noses of City.
Hughes loves the North West and the added attraction of going to City would be that he need not have to uproot his family from his home.
If Chelsea fail to attract the likes of Hughes then how are they going to attract an Ancelotti ot a Mancini - simple, throw loads of cash at them, give them a translator in the form of Gianfranco Zola who will also be groomed as successor and there you have it.
Now, if Peter Kenyon fails on his sword in the not too distant future they need only give me a call.

We are not happy that Chelsea are happy with their seach for a new boss.
We need the right man installed as soon as possible.
Presumably he will have some input into the comings and goings at the Bridge this summer.
Unless, of course that is just what he won't have - control over player purchases.
Will he simple be a rubber-stamper of Roman's team selections?
If that is the case then no self-respecting manager will give Chelsea the time of day. They will end up getting a 'Yes man' and 'Thanks for the money man'.

Have your say on the manager search debacle on the messageboard.
