Chelsea Fans Delighted as Timo Werner Nets After Less Than Four Minutes in Blue

Timo Werner has scored his first goal in a Chelsea shirt just minutes into his friendly debut, as he opened the scoring against Brighton on Saturday.

The 24-year-old made a big summer move to Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig, joining for £47.5m in June. Blues fans got their first glimpse of their new German striker in Saturday's friendly at the AMEX Stadium, 16 days before they return to the south coast to kick off their season.

Werner started up front for Chelsea, with fellow arrival Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi either side of him. It took just 207 seconds for him to score, Hudson-Odoi's misplaced header falling right into the German's path to be slotted past Mat Ryan.

Does an early friendly goal mean anything at all for Werner's prospects of succeeding in England? Not really. But seeing your new attacking signing score early is never, ever a bad thing.

Werner had a fantastic season in front of goal for RB Leipzig, playing a key part in the team who finished third in the Bundesliga and reached the Champions League semi-finals. The German scored 34 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions, finishing as the league's top-scoring German player.

Chelsea begin the Premier League season on 14 September, returning to the AMEX to face Brighton for their opening game. The Blues are then back at Stamford Bridge six days later, when they welcome champions Liverpool to west London on 20 September.
