Chelsea Eye Audacious Summer Move for Dean Henderson in Latest Goalkeeping Plot Twist

Chelsea are preparing a daring swoop to bring Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, currently on loan at Sheffield United, to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has lost faith in current number one and club-record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga after the Spaniard went an eternity - or so it seemed - without making a save in the Premier League.

Lampard has recalled the 25-year-old to his starting lineup following a strong display in the FA Cup win over Liverpool, but he remains unconvinced by the long-term capabilities of the former Athletic man.

With that in mind, the Daily Star claim that Chelsea are instead setting their sights on Man Utd's Henderson as their starting shot-stopper for the coming season.

The 22-year-old has won rave reviews this year for his stellar performances between the sticks for Sheffield United, and the young goalkeeper looks certain to earn a call-up to the England senior side on Thursday.

But why would Man Utd let him go if he's that good? Well, the Red Devils have invested heavily in current number one David de Gea, and given the Spaniard's deal runs until 2023, there are few signs that he will be leaving Old Trafford any time soon.

Henderson would be a suitable heir to the Man Utd throne, but even if De Gea has become worryingly error-prone over the past couple of seasons, it seems highly unlikely that the Sheffield United man will force his way into the starting lineup upon his return to Manchester.

And that's where Chelsea come in. The Blues also spent big on their record signing Arrizabalaga, but Lampard is seemingly prepared to cut all ties with the Spanish goalkeeper, and welcome Henderson to the club as their new first choice between the posts.

The £25m-rated star has helped fire the Blades to sixth place in the Premier League and with only two years remaining on his current Old Trafford deal, the Blues may seize the initiative and look to pinch the talented youngster from their once title rivals.
