Chelsea Close to Tying Down Starlet Tino Anjorin to Long-Term Contract

Although the Premier League has been brought to a standstill by the coronavirus pandemic, clubs are still pushing on with the paperwork behind the scenes.

And Chelsea are being kept very busy tying down the consistent stream of young talent that continues to flow from their youth academy. Following the meteoric rise to fame of midfielder Billy Gilmour, another Blues product made his league debut for the club in their 4-0 victory over Everton.

Anjorin came on to feature in the final 20 minutes of the match against the Toffees, and he looks to have all the attributes of another successful academy graduate for Frank Lampard's side.

Goal reports that Chelsea are keen to tie the 18-year-old to a fresh deal at Stamford Bridge, and they are close to ironing out the final creases in his brand new contract. The midfielder has less than a year remaining on his current deal, and the west London club is hoping to secure the youngster's services until 2025.

One of the main tasks the Blues face is convincing the starlet that he can realistically play a part in Chelsea's first team next season, given the amount of star quality that is already within the squad.

Anjorin is delighted to have made his senior debut this season, and he is extremely pleased with the progress he is making under Lampard's tutelage. But he has benefitted from a severe injury crisis this year, and competition for places will only get more challenging in the coming months.

Speaking to The Independent, Anjorin shared his ambitions for the future, stating that in five years time he wants to be 'a leader in the team', and a figure for other youth academy players to aspire towards.

“I know if I keep working harder I can try and be at their level. I want to try and put myself in the same position that Reece [James] is in now. I want to be scoring, I want to be creating. In five years time, I want to be a leader in the team, helping the younger academy kids to come through, where they can look up to me too and thrive as well.”
