Chelsea appoint Rafa Benitez as interim manager

Benitez was available having been out of work since his sacking by Inter Milan in December 2010 and has a track record of success having led Liverpool to Champions League and FA Cup glory and Valencia to two La Liga titles.

Benitez lasted less than six months in the Inter hot-seat, winning the Italian Supercup and Club World Cup but leaving the team 13 points adrift of their bitter city rivals AC Milan in the league, although with two games in hand.

A key element to the appointment of Benitez is the idea of bringing out the best of Fernando Torres. Benitez signed Torres from his time at Liverpool. Under the wing of Benitez, Torres was able to flourish in the Premier League. Scoring 24 league goals in his first campaign ? Benitez will know how to get the best out of, at the moment, the ?50million problem. The Liverpool fans adored him at Anfield, and due to his lack of goal scoring ? quite rightly the Chelsea fans have not responded to him similarly.
