Chelsea were stunned by a top performance from West Brom at Stamford Bridge to mark a first defeat for manager Thomas Tuchel since he took over in late January.
Chelsea took the lead through Christian Pulisic, before collapsing under the pressure of a Baggies surge inspired by a first half brace from Matheus Pereira. Callum Robinson made it 3-1, before Mbaye Diagne extended the lead again.
Mason Mount pulled one back, but West Brom got a fifth with Robinson’s second.
Chelsea ratings
1. Goalkeeper and Defenders
Edouard Mendy (GK) - 5/10: Caught in no-man’s land for West Brom’s first goal. Arguably not commanding enough in other instances.
Cesar Azpilicueta (CB) - 4/10: Struggled to contend with West Brom’s attacking threats.
Thiago Silva (CB) - 2/10: Looked rusty on his long awaited return from injury and was sent off after only half an hour as a result of two yellow cards.
Kurt Zouma (CB) - 4/10: Easily beaten by a long clearance that allowed West Brom back into the game. Not his best day.
2. Midfielders
Reece James (RM) - 6/10: Looked a threat going forward but it was his lax pass that led to West Brom’s crucial second goal.
Jorginho (CM) - 5/10: Didn’t get control of the game and uncharacteristically gave the ball away fairly regularly.
Mateo Kovacic (CM) - 6/10: Poor in the first half but lifted his game after the break. Not enough of his teammates followed suit.
Marcos Alonso (LM) - 5/10: Saw his free-kick tipped onto the post but Pulisic followed it in. Wasn’t strong enough defensively for West Brom’s second.
3. Forwards
Hakim Ziyech (RW) - 5/10: Squandered a good early chance to counter attack with a poor pass. Sacrificed tactically when Silva was sent off.
Timo Werner (ST) - 6/10: Still didn’t get his much needed goal but bagged an 11th assist of the season and at least looked a threat. Probably Chelsea’s best player.
Christian Pulisic (LW) - 5/10: Reacted quickest to turn in the rebound from Alonso’s free-kick but didn’t do enough else to warrant staying on past half-time.
4. Substitutes
Andreas Christensen (CB) - 5/10: Replaced Thiago Silva and wasn’t the only Chelsea player not up to answering the questions asked of him.
Mason Mount (CM) - 6/10: At fault for West Brom’s fourth goal, although quickly made up for that when he scored Chelsea’s second.
Kai Havertz (AM) - 6/10: Showed good movement and intent but West Brom’s defence made it difficult to turn that into a real impact.

5. Goalkeeper and Defenders
Sam Johnstone (GK) - 7/10: Did everything that was asked of him. Even made a top fingertip save in the build up to the opener but was powerless to prevent the rebound going in.
Darnell Furlong (RB) - 7/10: Great against his father’s old team.
Dara O’Shea (CB) - 6/10: Did his job well while he was on the pitch but injury cruelly ended his afternoon midway through the first half.
Kyle Bartley (CB) - 8/10: Marshalled the defence extremely well.
Semi Ajayi (CB) - 7/10: Another Baggies centre-back who stood up tall to be counted.
Conor Townsend (LB) - 7/10: Did a really good job getting up and down the left flank.
6. Midfielders
Matt Phillips (RM) - 7/10: Unlucky to hit the bar when West Brom were in the ascendancy in first half stoppage time. Put in a strong shift.
Okay Yokuslu (CM) - 6/10: Quietly effective in midfield.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles (CM) - 7/10: Made it difficult for Chelsea’s midfielders to play their game.
Matheus Pereira (LM) - 9/10: A major threat even before Chelsea’s collapse and set the tone for the win with two very well taken goals in first half stoppage time.
7. Forward
Mbaye Diagne (ST) - 7/10: Worked hard in a defensive shape early on and was eventually rewarded for his disciplined performance with the fourth goal.
8. Substitutes
Branislav Ivanovic (CB) - 6/10: Came off the bench to replace O’Shea and ended up going off himself after 13, appearing to pull a hamstring while expertly seeing off Werner in a foot race.
Callum Robinson (LM) - 8/10: Started and finished the superb move that put his team 3-1 and continued his excellent record against Chelsea with another goal later in.
