Chelsea 0-1 Porto: Player ratings as Blues reach semi finals despite Taremi stunner

Chelsea secured the result they needed to take them into the semi finals of the Champions League despite an incredible stoppage time overhead kick from Porto's Mehdi Taremi.

An intense opening saw the Portuguese outfit press the Premier League outfit with intensity, but Chelsea soon found their rhythm and midfielders Jorginho and N'Golo Kante performed exceptionally in central midfield to keep their opponents comfortably at bay.

Substitute Taremi got the game's only goal in the 93rd minute, rising highest to acrobatically fire into the top corner, but it wasn't enough to change the overall result of the tie.

The Blues are arguably the dark horses of the competition, enjoying a wonderful run of form ever since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard as manager, and will face the winners of the tie between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Let's get into the Chelsea player ratings.

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Azpilicueta was as dependable as ever | Quality Sport Images/Getty Images

Edouard Mendy (GK) - 6/10 - Gave the ball straight to Jesus Corona and had Jorginho to thank for bailing him out of trouble. Other than that little brain fart, he had very little to do.

Cesar Azpilicueta (CB) - 7/10 - Chelsea's ever reliable Spaniard produced the perfect Azpilicueta performance. Understated but totally committed throughout.

Thiago Silva (CB) - 7/10 - Solid in the air when called upon and distributed possession nicely. Took a knock late on but ran it off.

Antonio Rudiger (CB) - 7/10 - Did somewhat peculiarly head the ball back into traffic rather than clear it at one point but got away with it. Won most of his headers too.

2. Wing backs & midfielders

Reece James (RWB) - 7/10 - Very little got down the right hand side. Didn't deliver many crosses into the box but performed the task he was given well.

Jorginho (CM) - 8/10 - Brilliantly combative, making eight tackles. Snuffed out Porto's attacking ventures and used the ball reasonably well. A performance for his critics to take note of.

N'Golo Kante (CM) - 7/10 - Buzzed around in central areas and often broke forward when he won the ball. Screened well in front of the back four alongside Jorginho, ensuring Porto's top scorer in Liga NOS Sergio Oliveira barely had a sniff.

Ben Chilwell (LWB) - 7/10 - Set up a good chance for Pulisic which the American missed. Ventured forward on occasion and got a few shots away.

3. Forwards

Mason Mount (RF) - 6/10 - Saw a decent opening well blocked by Wilson Manafa. Worked hard but the game plan wasn't designed to get the best out of Mount's attacking skills.

Christian Pulisic (LF) - 6/10 - Couldn't sort his feet out when found in a good position by Chilwell, slicing wide instead of hitting the target. Drew a few fouls with some positive running.

Kai Havertz (FW) - 6/10 - Didn't really do much of note in the attacking third but did make the midfield even more stodgy when he dropped in and was a decent aerial presence.

4. Substitutes

Hakim Ziyech - N/A

Olivier Giroud - N/A
