Carlo Ancelotti heaped further pressiure on himself by stating that Roman Abramovich's search for his Holy Grail, ie The Champions league might be beyond his side this year.

The shock admission came following the dour 2-1 victory over Euro minnows MSK Zilkina last night.

The underfire Italian said: "If we play like we did in the first half again, it will be impossible to win the Champions League.

"It was a difficult game. We started badly, [with] no intensity.

"The second half was very good.

"We are not playing well, I changed the intensity of the game – we played too slow. We gave Zilina too much time to get into positions.

"I wanted to play with two wingers that are why I took out Kakuta.

"It was an important game we wanted to be in first place [in Group F].

“It strange to have 60 shots on goal in two games and only score two goals. But we have to concentrate more in front of goal.

"It’s important to move on quickly. It was a good experience and showed good quality as a team.

"Its not in my style to use lucky charms, I am a lucky man," he joked.

"Josh McEachran can play every game, he was good defensively. He can play short or long – he played with personality."

Zilina coach Pavel Hapel was disappointed to lose: "Unfortunately I am disappointed - we hoped to get a point and luck was not on our side in this match.

“We had very good chances. We were so close today and put in extra effort.

“I have to say we defended really well. Chelsea had many chances to score.

“The main chance we had we scored and another good one late on.

“We could have changed the style a little bit. We are not used to playing so defensively but Chelsea suffered as a result. The boys are really disappointed not to win or even get a point.

“At home against Chelsea, we played a more open game, today was more defensive.

"I cannot see much difference between the two Chelsea performances.

“We did not expect so many fans to be here and we want to thank them.

“We have learnt a lot and playing fantastic teams, it is a baptism for us as coaches and a real experience for us.

“Chelsea is having difficulties and their fitness level is down. But if they improve then, yes, they can win the Champions League"
