Chelsea's impressive 2-0 win at Anfield and Manchester United's 1-0 at Sunderland means that the title will be decided next Sunday when the final matches of the PremierLleague season.

Both are at home - Chelsea to Wigan Athletic while United face Stoke City.

The Blues hold a single point advantage so a win for the Blues will stop United winning their fourth title in a row and give the Blues their third title duriong the Roman Abramovich era

Chelsea's goal-scorers were Didier Drogba who took advantage of a Steve gerrard backpass and Frank Lamaprd who tucked home from Nicolas Anelka's byline cross.

What did the respective managers think of the match?

Without knowing the outcome of the Sunderland United match which took place after the Chelsea win, the Italian said: “It was an important step to the title, we deserved to win and I am very happy. But we will have to wait and see what happens. All I am thinking about now is the next game [at home to Wigan Athletic next Sunday].

“We played with personality and courage with good tactics.

“We are in a good situation [to win the league]. But the league will be decided only at the last game.

“It was a big win to fight for the title.

“We deserved to win – we had lots of opportunities to counter-attack.

“There was a lot of pressure on us and we controlled our emotions.

“The team is fit, but we have to play one more game.

“We are not interested in the Sunderland result.

“The first goal was important and we gained more confidence. Liverpool lost their strength at that point.

“The fans that have followed us all over the country were great and I want to say thanks to them.”

When asked about the contribution of midfielder Frank Lampard, who scored the second goal, Ancelotti said: “I’m not surprised Frank scored. He has the fantastic skill to move into the penalty box at the right time.

Under fire Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez refused to answer questions regarding his future, deciding instead to concentrate only on the game and tactics. ”We approached the game as one we wanted to win,” said the Spaniard.

“But the first goal changed the game.

We then had a problem with two players, Jamie Carragher and Maxi Rodriguez. And then we conceded another goal.

“Chelsea is a very good team. They have come back from a few problems but I don’t know if they will finish top of the league.

Dodging more questions about his future at Liverpool and how the fans want to know if he will still be at Anfield next season, Benitez said: I want to say a big thank you to the fans; it has been a difficult season. We haven’t had much luck in this game.

“I have a four-year contract but I don’t want to talk about it.

“I will have a meeting with the chairman in the week.

“The manager always has to take responsibility.”
