The Blues have, they said reached an agreement with Barcelona for the transfer of Brazilian Juliano Belletti, 31, subject to the player agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.
It ends speculation that Daniel Alves would be signing from Sevilla.
That deal stumbled over the fee with the Spanish side wanting excess of £27m for the Brazilian.
Belletti has signed a two-year deal.
