Barcelona interested in Luiz again

Whilst Luiz has grown in stature during his time at Stamford Bridge, the question remains whether the new management team at Chelsea value him enough to keep him on-board.

Mourinho has often used no nonsense centre-backs and Luiz, a cultured player with more footballing skills than many playing further up the field, may not fit into the team he wants to build. However, Luiz has come on leaps and bounds during the past twelve months cutting out many of the unnecessary mistakes that blighted his first season in the premiership. This may be enough to persuade Mourinho that the cultured Brazilian can do a job for his team next season.

A firm fan favourite, David Luiz looks a perfect fit for a Barcelona team hoping to challenge on all fronts next season. His skill on the ball and ability to bring it out of defence would seem to fit very well into the Catalan's style of football.

However, Chelsea are not a selling club and with Abramovich's riches do not need money to fund future transfers. If the rumours prove to be true, much will depend on Luiz himself. Although he has stressed in the past how happy he is at the Bridge, Barcelona may be a challenge too good to turn down.

Of course, the Chelsea back-room team will have the final say in where the player is plying his trade next season. Whether Luiz stays or goes may give us a fundamental idea as to how Mourinho wants to set Chelsea up next season. Will he have faith in the cultured central defender and other players comfortable on the ball? or will he be setting Chelsea up with the physical but less cultured presence of Cahill, Ivanovich and Terry?
