Barcelona after Chelseas troubled Fernando Torres

Last updated : 13 June 2013 By DSG

Barcelona have already signed Brazilian Neymar for a fee of around ?54m, but reports in the Spanish daily Paper 'Sport' suggest the Catalans could make a ?17m bid for the out of form Torres. Torres would not be used as a regular starter at the club but would be seen as a useful super sub to provide a direct line of attack this Barcelona team sometimes lack.

Torres has been out of form since his ?50m switch from Liverpool and with Edison Cavani rumoured to be joining newly appointed Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, Torres may seek a fresh start elsewhere. However, Torres has been making all the right noises to 'the happy one' Mourinho and appears willing to stay and try to kick start his career once more under the self proclaimed 'Special One'.

The thought of Torres flourishing under Mourinho is a mouth watering prospect. Torres regained some sort of goal scoring form last campaign achieving 23 goals in all competitions, 6 coming in the Europa league.

Chelsea have today announced the signing of Andre Schurrle from Bayern Leverkusen for a reported ?18m which may indicate there is no longer room for Fernando Torres at Stamford Bridge.
