Patrick Bamford has gone out on loan to Crystal Palace on a season-loan deal.

The striker who has impressed at loan deals at MK Dons, Derby and Middlesborough in the past three seasons, steps up a gear with his move to the south-east London firm.

To sweeten the deal and to protect their investment Chelsea have pinned the 21-year-old down with a new three-year deal.

it's a great move for Bambi, who was desperate to get a move closer to London, but a bit of a blow for the Eagles who had wanted vastly more experienced striker Loic Remy instead.

But Jose Mourinho vetoed the move and Remy will remain at the Bridge vying for a starting berth with Diego Costa and on-loan hit-man Radamel Falcao.

Bamford said of his move back to London: "I'm delighted to sign a new contract with Chelsea. My dream has always been to be part of this club for the long term. Chelsea have been fantastic with my development and joining Crystal Palace for this season on loan is the next step for me in my career."

Bamford hit the net 19 times for Aitor Karanka's side last term and was named Championship Player of the Year.
